Event Description:
Join us for a beginner's specimen preparation class taught by Robert Kelsey, a trained specimen preparator! You'll receive one-on-one guidance from museum collections professionals while completing the preparation of a small mammal specimen. In this comprehensive class, you'll learn all the basic techniques of small mammal preparation and about the importance of specimens in biodiversity research. Guests will be able to take home their prepared specimen after the class!
Please bring a brown bag lunch.
All materials will be provided. Participants must be 18 years or older. Specimen preparation requires good eyesight, attention to detail, manual dexterity, and patience. Participants will be working with sharp tools and small instruments. Nature Museum staff will review health and safety procedures with participants at the start of the event.
Space is limited. Advanced registration is required.
